BELMONT, Mass., July 17 (AScribe Newswire) -- McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, announced today the opening of The McLean Center at Fernside in Princeton, Mass., a world-class residential treatment program for individuals with substance use disorders.
The Center, a new offering in McLean Hospital's world-renowned Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Program (ADATP), specializes in caring for individuals whose substance use may be complicated by psychiatric conditions. The program, located 50 miles west of McLean Hospital's Belmont, Mass., campus, can accommodate up to 10 patients, with an average stay per patient of 30 days or longer.
"In today's environment of managed health care, extended treatment for substance use disorders is no longer an option through private insurance. This has created a dearth of services, especially in New England," says Roger Weiss, MD, clinical director for the ADATP at McLean and a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Located in a 170-year-old historic Federal mansion with sweeping views of Mt. Wachusett and the Boston skyline on the horizon, The McLean Center at Fernside offers intensive, individualized treatment provided by experienced addiction and mental health providers, many of whom are Harvard Medical School faculty members. The program uses empirically tested, evidence-based treatment methods and strategies proven to have positive recovery outcomes.
The McLean Center also offers individual and group therapy; family education and counseling; gender-specific treatment; consultations with specialists in neurology, brain imaging and neuropsychology; and rehabilitative, therapeutic support services and activities, such as stress-reduction techniques, health education, coping skills, lifestyle management, fitness and exercise.
