PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 3 (AScribe Newswire) -- Citing the dramatic increase of electronic voting machines and concerns about the reports of problems from the past two elections, EvolveStrategies (www.evolvestrategies.net) announced the launch of an innovative online nonpartisan voter complaint system at VoterStory.org. The free downloadable "Web page widget" allows any organization with a web site to help voters record problems they have at the polls on November 7th. Voters who tell their story will be automatically referred to voter protection organizations for intervention and support.
"We want to make sure that any voter who experiences a problem at the polls has a way to tell their story and get help," explained Rob Stuart, President of EvolveStrategies and longtime voter rights advocate. "We hope and expect webmasters will install the VoterStory.org widget on news and candidate sites, civic organization sites and blogs dedicated to election protection."
VoterStory.org is an open source utility that can be placed on any website, but feeds the data into a central database that alerts voter protection groups each time a new incident is reported in their district.
Voters fill in an online form with the details of their incident. When the voter clicks "submit," the system sends an e-mail to a registered voter protection organization for follow-up. At the same time, an e-mail confirmation is sent to the voter informing him or her that they may be contacted by one of these organizations.
Development of the VoterStory Widget was made possible because of the support of Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Ford Foundation, and the Open Society Institute.
"We are supporting nonpartisan voter protection hotlines and other election-related groups to help make sure voters get the help they need if they have a problem at the polls,"said Geri Mannion, Chair, Strengthening U.S. Democracy Program, Carnegie Corporation of New York. "The VoterStory.org Web Widget complements those efforts by making sure more voter complaints are recorded online and can be addressed on Election Day and in the future," she said.
