Leading Public Opinion Research Association Honors CBS News Poll Director With Lifetime Achievement Award

ARLINGTON, Va., May 22 (AScribe Newswire) -- The American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) has this year given its highest honor to CBS news polling director Kathleen A. Frankovic. The AAPOR Award, presented this year on May 17 during the association's annual conference in New Orleans, is made in recognition of lifetime achievement and outstanding contribution to the field of public opinion research.

"As noted during our presentation of the award - AAPOR's highest honor - Kathy Frankovic possesses a rare combination of academic intellect and media awareness, which she has used as the heart and soul of CBS news polling," said AAPOR President Richard Kulka. "She has served as an outstanding leader and role model for those in our profession throughout the world. Her passion for excellence, creativity and depth of her professional contributions clearly commend her to join a distinguished group of the very best public opinion and survey research professionals that have been recognized, revered and honored by the Association."

Kathleen is Director of Surveys and a producer at CBS News, where she has major responsibility for the design, analysis and broadcasting of results from CBS News and CBS News/New York Times polls. She speaks and writes extensively about elections and public opinion, as well as the development and use of polling by newspapers and television. Her academic and scholarly contributions include identification of the gender gap; she has helped explain this phenomenon in news rooms, classrooms, to political campaigns, and the public.

Her contributions to AAPOR and to the public opinion research profession are extensive: at AAPOR she has served as President, Standards Chair, Conference Chair and Councilor-at-Large.

She has also been President of the World Association for Public Opinion Research as well as its Standards Chair; a member of the Market Research Council; a trustee of the National Council on Public Polls, a trustee for The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research; and a former chair of the Research Industry Coalition.

AAPOR is the leading professional organization of public opinion and survey research professionals in the U.S., with members from academia, media, government, the non-profit sector and private industry.
